No matter what, everyone from my generation will be affected the most by climate change.  Our future depends on what is done today to prevent the worst effects of global warming to occur.  We need leaders today to made good decisions to reconfigure how our cities are built and grow, to increase efficiency in cars and transition off of fossil fuels altogether.

What this means is that youth need to be at the table where any discussions are happening that affect our future.  Green councils in cities and school districts; green advisory boards of conferences, legislatures, companies, non-profits need to be including the youth voice in their decision-making.

And youth need to learn how to USE their voices.  We don’t automatically know what to say when we ARE occasionally included. 

That’s what C3Y is all about.  The California Climate Council of Youth is a group of California’s smartest, most creative, and most passionate youth that will be coming together for training and planning.  We will be empowered to listen through all the lingo to hear “what is really being done about global warming with this group?  How will my generation, and the generations that follow me be affected by this decision?”  And we will learn how to speak up and be heard.

We are putting the pieces in place to launch this state-wide initiative this year.  If you are or you know someone who wants to be included in the first California Climate Council of Youth, please contact us.  In addition, we are looking for mentors and funding for this program.
